Quantitative (QNFT) – Ambient aerosol condensation nuclei-counting (CNC) uses the ambient aerosols in the immediate fit testing environment to measure the amount of aerosol inward leakage getting inside the respirator compared to the amount outside the respirator. This ratio of reduction indicates the fit factor being achieved during the fit test. Different respirators types have different recommended minimum fit factors to be achieved to be deemed an adequate fit. This method can fit test all styles of tight-fitting respirators such as disposable/filtering facepieces, reusable half face and reusable full face.
- Clean shaven on the day
- No smoking or eating within 30 minutes of the test
- Bring appropriate PPE (e.g., eye protection, headwear etc.) you usually wear in conjunction with the respirator to the fit test session
- If you normally wear prescription eyewear, you must bring this item with you to the fit test.
- Do not attend if you are unwell including sore throat or having any symptoms of a respiratory like illnes
If the fit test is successful, the process should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
We provide basic training in line with Section 7.6.3 of the Silica Code of Practice, this includes:
- Why respirators are being worn and when they are required.
- How the respirator actually works to lower your exposure to a contaminant.
- The limitations of the respirator being tested.
- How to assemble the respirator.
- How to don or put on the respirator, and how to dof or take off the respirator.
- How to complete a “Fit Check”.
- How and when to change the filters.
- What your current filters will protect you against.
- How to clean, maintain and store the respirator.
